Giorgio Zagnoni, born Bologna, Italy, started studies at Conservatorio "G.B.Martini di Bologna", and graduated in flute performance from the "Cherubini di Firenze" with higest honors.
 

At eighteen years old he became principal flutist of "Orchestra Sinfonica della RAI di Milano" holding the position for a decade.
 

At twenty years old he joined the faculty of Conservatorio "G.B.Martini" Bologna, Italy where he has taught ever since.

Following this he has since dedicated himself to soloist activity, working all with the major Italian musical organizations,
like Teatro alla Scala, Accademia di S.Cecilia, Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Festival dei Due Mondi di Spoleto, RAI, etc.

Internationally he has played in the most prestigious halls, like Carnegie Hall in NewYork, Herkulessaal in Munich, Gewandhaus in Lipzig, Coliseos in Buenos Aires.

He has also partecipated in important tours in Japan, United States, Canada, Brazil, Argentina, Chile. Germany, Russia,
Australia, Belgium, Spain, Ireland, Finland, Greece, Luxembourg, Mexico, England, etc.

He is considered by critics to be one of the most internationally renowed flutist. Giulio Confalonieri and Duilio Courir defined him as "The Magic Flute from Bologna", Franco Abbiati - "King Mida of the flute", Massimo Mila - "A flutist that sings and enchants like a voice", Lorenzo Arruga - "A flutist above all others", Mario Pasi - "The Enchanting Flutist".

 

On the occasion of the Bi-centenary of the United States he gave a concert at the Withe House. .

He has also recived many recognitions such as "il Premio decennale di Benemerito alla Cultura" given by the Italian governement,
the prize in commemoration of the bicentennial of the Italian flag, "Bandiera d' Italia", and has won the international prize of "I Numeri Uno" four times(Florence, Perugia, Rome, Aquila), "Diapason d' Oro","Nettuno d' Oro", "Quadrivio" in Rovigo, " il Premio Pentagramma", and " il Premio Taormina".


He gave a concert at the Vittoriano in Rome where he was appointed to the "Premio alla Carriera" under the patronage of the President of the Republic of Italy..

Other assignment include " la medaglia commemorativa Arcangelo Corelli" with Sergiu Celibidache, and a merit nomination for "Accademico della Regia Accademia Filarmonica".

 He has recorded on the CBS, RCA, PDU, EMI, and Foint Centra labels.

He is a founder of the Bologna Festival, artistic director of the "Musicalmente Bologna" concert season, and artistic director for the commemoration of Verdi "Italiani nel Mondo" concert at the Vittoriano, Rome.

 He was also responsible for the artistic coordination of the tri-annual multi-regional project of the "Alta Formazione
in Orchestra Sinfonica", "AFOS, MYTHOS" of the Arturo Toscanini Foundation.

He is also artistic director of the "Bach a Bartok" Festival in Imola and of the "Musicando" concert season of Bologna".

 

 In 2003 he was appointed by the President of the Republic Italy, Carlo Azeglio Ciampi, the honorary title of
"Grande Ufficiale Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana".
 

In 2005 he was nominated President of the foundation "Accademia Verdi Toscanini".

Since 2008, He has been artistic director of Teatro Manzoni in Bologna
